Wind Power Facts

A conversion of wind energy into a useful form such as electricity is the basic idea behind wind power facts. In this article, I promise to tell you the basic facts about wind power. You will understand the story behind wind power and how it evolved through time.

The use of wind power has been around for 5,500 years. Men first learned how to harness it to grind corn and pump water. Wind power was first used as sail boats and sail ships propeller. The wind power information has also been used to design a wind power system that could operate on irrigation and furnaces in ancient times. By seventh century the very first wind mill was built in Afghanistan. The very first house to have its own wind power system was in Scotland. In the 1890s wind turbines were constructed to generate electricity.

To have better knowledge about wind power we must first understand the two words that make up “wind power”. Let me give you a very short and simple wind power information. To understand more about wind power information it is essential that we must first understand how wind is produced. Everyday we feel the wind in our hair and on our clothes. When it’s windy, you can fly a kite and sail your boat.  Wind is simply described as air that is on motion.

But what causes air to move? Air movement is caused by the uneven heating of the earth’s surface by the earth. This uneven heating on the earth’s surface creates the wind cycle. I am sure you’ve heard about the day and night cycle of the wind.

During the day, the air on land heats faster than over water since land molecules are more solid or compact. During the night, the air on land cools quickly. The warm air over land during the day rises to the air while the heavier, cooler air from the ocean takes it place. This exchange in position by warm and cold air creates the wind.

On the other hand, in science, power is the amount of work done or the energy that is transferred. As a whole, the concept behind power is simple. To create wind power, wind must force an object to move. The movement of an object represents energy. This energy can then be converted into other forms of energy such as electrical energy. The objects that has to be moved by the wind for example are the blades of the wind mills. The windmill then drives a turbine and generates electricity.

The increasing demand for energy source is increasing. That is why most people try to find means to lessen their expenses. The small scale wind power system gives people the chance to take charge of their own energy source problem. This will give them the opportunity to start building their own wind power system.

As a whole, wind power is a cheap, free, renewable and unlimited source of energy. It has developed from big (wind mill) to small (small wind power system). The goal of these basic wind power facts is to give each person a vision of the wind power’s potential to relieve everyone’s problems.
