Do I Need A Plan For Building A Shed?

Every one needs a shed for storing away those tools, mowers, ladders, painting equipment, ect that we don’t want to clutter our house up with. And with the possibility of thieves scouring our neighborhood looking for easy pickings it’s important to have somewhere to lock away our valuable equipment that’s going to give us peace of mind when we’re not at home. If you want to build one yourself you need a plan for building a shed. I have built quite a few sheds myself and even though I could do it without a plan I would still seek out a detailed plan.

Here’s why you need a plan.

Firstly, a good plan will take out all the guesswork about ordering the right size and quantity of materials. Building materials are expensive and you don’t want to finish up with a whole lot of stuff left over that you may never use.

On the other hand you don’t want to get three quarters of the way through constructing your shed only to find that you calculated your material list wrong and you have run out of an essential supply. This can be really frustrating when you’re on a roll with the project and now you can’t progress any further because you have to stop and run down to the timber store again.

Timber framing sizes are critical too because they need to be of the right proportion to make sure they are strong enough to take the weight of your roof and resist any wind or snow load. You don’t want all your hard work collapsing in the next fierce storm do you?

With a detailed plan you will get a list of every piece of timber and all the fittings and hardware that you will need to complete the project. All you will have to do is take the cutting list to your lumber supplier and get them to cut it all to size for you. Your plan will also indicate what strength rating the framing needs to be.

Along with the blueprint there might be instructions to guide you through each step of construction. So even if you don’t have a lot of building knowledge or skills you will feel confident that you can put this shed together without much trouble

Who knows, by the time you have finished your shed you will feel so confident and pleased with yourself you may go on to make all sorts of handy and decorative objects. A kennel for the dog? Garden furniture perhaps? A pergola?

So I think anyone would be crazy not to take advantage of a plan to build a shed.

I have found an inexpensive and detailed plan to build a shed source with easy step by step instructions and hundreds of great designs. I’m certain you would find something that suits your needs.
