Blueprints Storage Shed Planning

Before you build a storage shed, you need do some careful planning. Measure your yard and decide how big of a shed you want. Decide what will be going into the shed, and leave a little room for ‘incidentals’. Once you have the shed, you will find all sorts of other things you want to put in there. Then you are ready to get a blueprint storage shed. These can be bought on-line or at your local lumber store. There are also many blueprints available for free.

Buying a premade storage shed is easier and faster, but much more expensive, plus you still have to put it together by yourself. All you basically get is precut materials and instructions. If you know how to saw some wood and screw it together, you can easily make your own storage shed in no time. Reading the blueprints can be tricky for some people. If you are not comfortable with blueprints, get step by step instructions instead.

As with any structure, you start with the foundation. Most foundations are either wooden skids or concrete slabs. Concrete is more work and more expensive. Either way, you should properly prepare the ground before setting up your shed, by laying a level bed of gravel for drainage. Wooden foundations can be set on concrete blocks instead of  a gravel bed, if you prefer.

After your foundation is ready, you can start on the walls. Construct them on the ground and then raise them into position. Make sure to brace the wall before nailing the bottom to the base. Add your trusses, cover them with plywood and shingle the roof.

Blueprint storage sheds will tell you the exact length to cut the wood and how many pieces you need. It will tell you how to cut holes for windows, if your design includes windows, and how to construct the door. Making your own storage shed can be fun and rewarding.
